Toronto Home Painting Transformations: Before & After Gallery
These three recent Next Day Painting projects show what prep, the right paint and professional application can do: a dark burgundy Leslieville living room brightened with White Dove and Hale Navy, a faded Brampton exterior updated in Agreeable Gray with a black door, and orange oak Etobicoke kitchen cabinets refinished in white.
Colour charts and swatches only go so far. The easiest way to decide whether a painting project is worth it is to see what happened to real homes. Below are three recent transformations from Toronto and the GTA, each with before and after photos, the paints we used, the scope of work and how long it took. Every project here is documented in more detail in its own case study.
1. Leslieville Living Room: Dark Burgundy to Bright and Modern
Property: 1920s Victorian semi in Leslieville, Toronto. Service: interior repaint. Timeline: 2 days.

The homeowners had lived with dark red walls for three years. The room absorbed afternoon light and felt much smaller than it was. We used Benjamin Moore Regal Select Eggshell in White Dove on the main walls, Hale Navy (HC-154) on one accent wall, and Chantilly Lace (OC-65) semi-gloss on trim and moulding. Day one covered prep, priming and the first coat; day two finished the second coats and trim, and the crew was out by mid-afternoon. The navy wall gives the room depth without fighting the home's original architecture. Read the full Leslieville living room case study.
2. Brampton Exterior: Faded Cream to Modern Greige and Black
Property: 2003 detached two-storey in Brampton. Service: full exterior repaint. Timeline: 4 days.

This project used Sherwin-Williams Duration: Agreeable Gray (SW 7029) on the siding, Extra White (SW 7006) on trim and soffits, and Tricorn Black (SW 6258) on the door and shutters. Day one was power washing and conditioning, day two the first siding coat, day three the second coat and trim, and day four doors, shutters and detail work. We had four consecutive dry days above 15 degrees, which is ideal for exterior adhesion. The homeowners had been quoted $38,000 for new vinyl siding and chose to repaint instead. See the full Brampton exterior repaint case study.
3. Etobicoke Kitchen: Orange Oak Cabinets to Bright White
Property: 1994 detached home in Etobicoke, Toronto. Service: cabinet refinishing. Timeline: 3 days.

The cabinets were degreased, sanded and primed with Benjamin Moore High-Hide Primer for slick surfaces, then finished in Benjamin Moore Advance in Chantilly Lace. Advance is an alkyd-hybrid that self-levels to a hard, smooth finish, which is why it is the professional standard for kitchen cabinets. Total project cost was $3,200 including labour, materials, hardware and HST, compared with replacement quotes of $16,000 to $22,000. The full details are in the Etobicoke kitchen cabinet case study.

What Makes These Projects Successful
The finished photos get the attention, but the results come from three things that do not show up in a picture.
Prep first
Washing, filling, sanding, degreasing and priming decide how long the finish lasts. Every project above started with surface prep.
The right paint for the job
Regal Select for interior walls, Duration for a weathered exterior and Advance for cabinets, each chosen for the surface and the wear it will see.
Professional application
Two finish coats, clean edges, careful masking and a daily clean-up leave the home usable and the result consistent.

The projects in this gallery took between two and four days: two days for a Leslieville living room, three days for an Etobicoke kitchen cabinet refinish and four days for a full Brampton exterior repaint. Timing depends on prep, weather for exteriors and the number of coats.
The Leslieville living room used Benjamin Moore Regal Select in White Dove and Hale Navy with Chantilly Lace on trim. The Brampton exterior used Sherwin-Williams Duration in Agreeable Gray, Extra White and Tricorn Black. The Etobicoke kitchen used Benjamin Moore Advance in Chantilly Lace over a high-hide bonding primer.
In the projects shown, yes. The Etobicoke homeowners had replacement quotes of $16,000-$22,000 for cabinets and spent $3,200 all-in on refinishing. The Brampton homeowners had been quoted $38,000 for new vinyl siding and chose to repaint for a fraction of that cost.
